Vulcan Refractories Joins Industry Leaders in Parliament to Advocate for the Ceramics Sector
Standing Up for the Future of the Ceramics Sector
At Vulcan Refractories, we are committed to supporting and strengthening the ceramics industry. That’s why we were proud to join Ceramics UK and fellow industry leaders at a pivotal parliamentary event, hosted by Gareth Snell MP. This event provided a crucial opportunity to raise awareness of the challenges facing our sector. And to advocate for stronger policies and support from the government.
Key Discussions with Industry Leaders and MPs
Over the course of two hours, Gary Dukes, our Managing Director, and other industry leaders engaged in important discussions with key government representatives, including the Industry Minister and the Business Secretary’s Parliamentary Private Secretary. The conversations focused on pressing issues that directly impact our industry’s future, including:
Rising Energy Costs: Addressing the increasing burden of energy prices on manufacturers. And the need for government intervention.
Carbon Pricing and Regulation: Exploring the impact of the UK Emissions Trading Scheme. And the proposed Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism.
Unfair Imports and Offshoring Risks: Highlighting the threat of cheaper, unregulated imports. And the importance of keeping production within the UK.
The Autumn Budget: Discussing the financial policies needed to protect and support the ceramics industry moving forward.
A Positive Step Toward Change
During the discussions, Ceramics UK Chief Executive Rob Flello noted that the Minister was receptive to the concerns raised and was already aware of the industry’s needs. This engagement signals an encouraging step forward in securing better government support. We will continue working closely with policymakers to push for meaningful change.
Vulcan’s Commitment to Driving the Industry Forward
At Vulcan Refractories, we believe in taking action to safeguard the future of the ceramics sector. Our participation in this event is just one of many steps we are taking to ensure the sector gets the recognition, investment, and policy backing it deserves.
We will continue to engage with government representatives, industry leaders, and organisations like Ceramics UK to drive positive change.
Stay tuned for further updates on our ongoing efforts and how we are working to shape the future of the ceramics industry.
