Vulcan is a ‘Safety First’ company. In 2018 we became the first UK refractory manufacturing company to be accredited to the ISO45001 international standard for occupational health and safety. Since then we have been re-assessed every 3 years, and still hold this accreditation today.
In 2022, having achieved 9 consecutive years at “Gold Status”, Vulcan received the ROSPA Gold Award for health and safety in the workplace. ROSPA (the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents) is the oldest health and safety organisation in the world and is internationally recognised for its work in this field.
In 2023, our 10th year at gold status, Vulcan received the prestigious ROSPA President’s Award for health and safety in the workplace. This award is only presented to a small number of companies and is a testament to our culture and dedication to improving health and safety for everyone at Vulcan, our customers, and the local community.
Our quality system is accredited to ISO9001 – an award we’ve held for 30 years. In June 2024, our Quality Management System was re-assessed, and we were again awarded this accreditation for a further 3 years.
At Vulcan, we recognise that our people are our greatest asset. They are the beating heart of our very existence, and that’s why we’re proud to have been accredited as Investors in People Gold status since 2022.
The wellbeing of our employees is very important to us at Vulcan. We want our people to feel well, and able to talk to us about any problems, whether they are work-related or not. Having this philosophy has resulted in Vulcan being recognised as Investors in People Wellbeing Silver status since 2022.
Our industry has a target of net-zero carbon emissions by 2050. Vulcan is an active member of the British Ceramics Towards Net Zero initiative, which has been created so that companies can work collaboratively by sharing best practices, in order to drive the industry forward to achieve this goal.
Ceramics UK has been set up to support the manufacturing industry in promoting and representing a modern and sustainable UK ceramics sector. The organisation now represents over 90% of the UK ceramics industry. Vulcan is an active member of this initiative, which facilitates networking opportunities and provides help and support with such issues as regulatory compliance, funding, and policies.
