Health and Safety double for firm

STAFF at a Cheadle firm are celebrating two health and safety milestones this week.

Vulcan Refractories at Brookhouse Industrial Estate, has been awarded the coveted OHSAS 18001 Health and Safety accreditation as well as seeing staff clock up over 1000 days Lost Time Accident free.

Managing Directory, Gary Dukes, said: “We are very proud of both these achievements as safety is our top priority.  “It is a tribute to our managers and workforce who all work together to ensure that everyone who works at Vulcan goes home to their families safely every single day.  “Furthermore, earning the OHSAS 18001 award shows just how far the Vulcan team has progressed.  “We intend to mark this achievement with a gift for everyone who works here.”

The 18001 award follows a full day initial assessment plus two days of intense cross examination by external auditors Lucideon, who covered every aspect of the company’s Health and Safety management system.
Health and safety Advisor, Ian Mycock, said: “Everyone has worked very hard to enjoy this success but it is vital that we never become complacent.  “Our aim at Vulcan is to keep everyone safe, keep improving and continue to benchmark ourselves against the best in the Industry.”
The Vulcan team, who are active members of the British Ceramic Confederation Safety Pledge Committee achieved the RoSPA Gold Health and Safety award last year and also gained Investors in People status in January this year.
